2nd March 2018 is 'Employee Appreciation Day'
Here at NB Communication, results come from a team effort. Our project managers, developers and designers work together to deliver for our clients.
Key to any successful business is the relationships that form in the workplace. Employees are at the forefront of communication with clients. They form strong relationships and deliver growth opportunities. It is vital for the relationships amongst the team to be built on strong foundations.
This year, Employee Appreciation Day is celebrated on the 2nd of March 2018. Studies show that a company that appreciates their employees can see results in a higher staff retention rate, increasing company productivity levels as a whole.
Although we appreciate our employees every day, we thought sharing some of our team members stories, lifetime highlights and what we get up to in our roles was a good way to celebrate the day.
Over the coming weeks, we will be sharing a series of posts that tell the stories behind the guys and girls that work here.
Meet Amy!
The first story that we are going to tell is that of Amy Watton, our newest employee. Amy joined the team as a Project Manager in the Edinburgh, and has a colourful story to tell.
Amy recently returned to her native Edinburgh after 5 years of living and working in sunny Spain. She moved to Spain at the age of 22 after receiving a job offer to work as a PE teacher in a bilingual school in Madrid.
Following 4 years of teaching football, football and more football, Amy decided it was time to study again. Realising her passion was in marketing, she decided to study a master’s in marketing of fashion and luxury goods, in Spanish.
After completing her master’s, she received a surprising job offer from a company in Palma de Mallorca. Who could say no to moving to such a beautiful island? Amy lived and worked in Mallorca for just over 8 months before she decided that it was time to return to her beloved Scotland (for the weather, obviously). This is where her journey with NB Communication began.
Amy’s role at NB Communication is project manager. This role requires a range of skills. These include communication, organisation and the management of a wide variety of clients.
Since starting, Amy has been collaborating with Edinburgh colleague, Matthew, on a range of projects. Amy is very passionate about some of NB Communication’s clients and is excited to take on more responsibilities in the future.
Amy's Q&A
To get to know Amy a little bit more, we have asked her a series of fun questions. These might give you a glimpse into who she is and what she might call her boat, if she had one. Let’s have a little look at the answers she gave us:
1. Tell us a surprising fact about yourself?
I am a trained PE teacher that escaped to live and work in Spain for 5 years.
2. What are your top 3 life highlights?
- The day I finally plucked up the courage to try and speak in Spanish, it made my life so much easier and enjoyable. HOLA AMIGOS!!
- Being a finalist in the Grant’s Whisky Greatest Interview, drinking whisky and travelling to Israel, India and Poland.
- Moving abroad. It kick started my passion to travel, explore and soak up new cultures.
3. If Hollywood made a move about your life, who would you like to see cast as you and why?
I would probably choose Rebel Wilson just so that we can become friends. She would make me laugh hysterically every day. What a breath of fresh air she is.
4. If you could be any animal, which would you be?
I would probably be a puffin. Asides from being incredibly cute, can you imagine living in such amazing locations, taking in the beautiful views daily from the skies.
5. What are your three most overused words/phrases?
Cool, joder (the most common used word in Spain), peanut butter
6. What’s the coolest thing you’re working on right now?
Just having recently started, I am finding everything cool so far! Having the opportunity to learn new skills, communicate with clients and discover how NB works is really exciting. In my spare time, I am also part of a team organising a World Whisky Day event, that is pretty cool too.
7. What’s the best meal you’ve ever had?
The best meal I have ever had was from a beach hut in the Philippines. I had fresh crab with a lovely coconut sauce. Unfortunately, I had been badly sunburnt a few days before and my lips had come out in blisters, it was the most delicious yet uncomfortable experience yet!!
8. If you could live in any period of history, when would it be?
I would love to live in the 1920’s. I would have loved the jazz, the fabulous outfits and the new-found independence many discovered.
9. What is the most important personal attribute that you bring to your job?
Adaptability. I bring skills that I have developed across a range of professions to help me solve problems, communicate with others and bring a positive outlook on projects.
10. What technology innovation made the most impact on your life?
I wanted to say the Tamagotchi, but I am not sure that would be classed as technology. There are many innovations that have made a big impact on my life, but I think the one that really stands out is video messaging. Being far away from loved ones is hard but being able to see their faces makes a huge difference.
11. What would you name your boat if you had one and why?
I had to Google this question for some inspiration but the ones that made me laugh the most were: Stiff Ripples, Usain Boat or Feeling Nauti
12. How would you convince someone to visit the place you love the most?
I wouldn’t reveal my favourite spot, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, they can find their own spot!!
